****UPDATED ON 4.20.20****
A message from your Senior Cabinet and Sponsors:
Dear Class of 2020,
By now, you know that SOCES will not be reopening for the remainder of the semester. With deep regret, we must formally announce the cancelation of all senior events that have been planned to take place in May and June. We are all completely heartbroken about the Class of 2020 losing the events you have been waiting for your entire education. Despite losing these events due to the COVID-19 virus, the Senior Cabinet and Class Sponsors are looking into ways to possibly hold these events at a later point in the future. Unfortunately, due to the unknown nature of the pandemic, it is very difficult for us to take a definite plan of action. In order to cease the spread of rumors and incorrect information, we want to share with you what we know:
● The district has announced the possibility of a virtual graduation, but we do not know what that entails. However, the Senior Cabinet is looking into the possibility of a traditional ceremony in late July if the situation improves and provides us that privilege.
SOCES Admin. is planning a virtual Senior Awards Night. More information to follow.
Grad Nite has officially been canceled by Disneyland. Nevertheless, we are looking to planning a Disney event in the future. More information to follow.
The Senior Picnic on May 22 is canceled. We are still discussing the logistics of rescheduling the picnic to late July if the conditions permit.
We are also discussing the possibility of hosting a Prom in late July of this year if the conditions permit. The location of the Sheraton Universal Hotel will remain the same.
We are working to honor refunds to students that request them.
In terms of refunds, we are working closely with the administration, the Student Store along with vendors and venues to secure all of our funds.
We will be providing a method in which students are able to request a refund of their senior dues in the next coming days. However, please be patient because due to the current conditions, the earliest a refund can be issued is middle to late May. Also, because there is a chance we would be able to host a Prom in July, if you are not in need of your funds returned now, know that they are secure in the Senior Class account until the next year. Those who request a refund will have to repay for the event if they choose to attend. The Senior Cabinet ensures that all money will be fully refunded (per event) if there is no event. We want to thank all of you for such an amazing year. We always had packed fundraisers, fun events, and made many lifelong memories along the way. We secured an off-campus picnic, a refined and elegant prom venue, had crepes for breakfast, exceeded the capacity at Ultrazone in 20 minutes, skated the night away at Skateland, and went TikTok famous at our Talent Show. IT TOOK AN ENTIRE PANDEMIC TO STOP OUR AMAZING SENIOR YEAR… BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY. Earlier in the year, massive fires tried to take away our homecoming. Now, a virus is trying to steal our final weeks. But like the fires, this virus will not stop us. This will not be how our story ends. This virus is not forever. Our memories together and our friendships as well as our bond as a class has only been strengthened and made greater by these times. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you one more time!
Sincerely, Jeffrey Ambriz,
Mr. Pak and Mrs. Goldstein,
Senior Class Sponsors
and the rest of the Senior Class Cabinet
