SOCES has a long tradition of athletics. We field over 14 teams and over 200 students participate in high school athletics. While our concentration is on academics, our students find time to dedicate themselves to represent the school on the field.

The Sherman Oaks CES KNIGHTS VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM competes in the CIF LA CITY SECTION 8 Man Football division. SOCES Football in the past two seasons has accomplished a 2016 CIF LA CITY SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP and this past season earned 2017 CIF LA CITY SECTION RUNNER-UP. There is a strong tradition being built at SOCES FOOTBALL based on DISCIPLINE, CHARACTER and INTEGRITY.
Currently there is a new era beginning with a new coaching staff for the 2018 season. We have a new head coach, Demian “Coach D” Vinarsky. Coach D is the Varsity Swim Coach and is returning to Football at Sherman Oaks CES after coaching at the Junior College (JUCO) level. He was an assistant coach with the 2016 Knights coaching staff that went 11-1 and won the City Championship. Along with Coach D is a new coaching staff that all have played high school football, JUCO Football, and also Division 1 NCAA Football. The coaching staff as a whole has over 30 years of experience playing and coaching the game.
KNIGHTS FOOTBALL is looking forward to an excellent season. Expect great things from an incredible group of young men and coaching staff. Coach D and his staff don’t believe in just being a team, but as Knights they become and are FAMILY. DISCIPLINE, RESPECT, INTEGRITY and CHARACTER are not just keywords. These words are the pillars of the foundation this football family is built on. Come support the Knights this upcoming season!!
The SOCES Girls’ Volleyball program has earned a long-standing reputation for success in the Valley League and is securing a name for itself in CIF Los Angeles City Section as a whole. The varsity program has won an impressive six League Championship titles in the past nine years; appeared in CIF Championship title matches in 2010 and 2014; and has been honored with multiple accolades including All-League Most Valuable Player, All-City, and CIF-LACS Player of the Year awards for its talented athletes.
Led by first-year varsity coach and SOCES alumna Coach Taytum this past Fall 2016 season, the varsity Lady Knights achieved a place in the record books by bringing home an undefeated pre-season and League record of 14-0 match wins and an astounding total of 36-0 set wins in league play. As Undefeated Valley League Champions, the 2016 Lady Knights earned a spot in CIF-LACS Division II playoffs, and topped off their season as LACS CIF Division II Semi-Finalists!
Behind the success, are the hard-working student-athletes who make the program so successful. This most recent Fall 2016 season, senior varsity captains Katy Lam and Paulina Manzo received All-League team honors. While juniors Jessica and Ashley Pobanz (2016 All-City Second team), helped lead the varsity team to an undefeated season as libero and outside hitter respectively, and they will be instrumental in filling the shoes of the graduating seniors next season. Outside hitter, Quintessa Reckleff, also led an impressive season with being named the All-League Most Valuable Player, and garnering SOCES Girls’ Volleyball’s first ever CIF-LACS Division II “Player of the Year” award, just as a sophomore.
Next season, the Lady Knights are looking forward to getting back into the gym to continue to improve skills both on the Junior Varsity team and Varsity team, as well as grow their team of young athletes, as they say goodbye to seven graduating seniors this year.
The Girls Varsity Basketball Lady Knights have an 11 year history of being number one in the Valley League. 9 league championships and an over all league record of 121-9. Our program has a rich history of “victory with honor” and has always demonstrated the epitome of student-athletes. These ladies jumped up from Division 4 to Division 2 last year and we have accepted the challenge with great pride.
Coach Jennifer Crockett has entrusted the Jr. Varsity team to alumni, Coach Paulina Santiago and volunteer alumni coach, Jocelyn Lazo. Each team follows the Lady Knights traditions and high expectations. Jr. Varsity also has 8 league championships over the span of 11 years.
This years team will prove to be nothing less. Although having a height disadvantage, you can expect that their heart is as big as their history. Senior captain Lena Spencer, our “rock”, combined with the dynamic shooting of senior Audrey Townsend will lead this team to victory. The unstoppable defense of sophomore sensation, Justyne Nakano will be exciting to watch! Our challenges this year will be overcome with true team efforts and strong team chemistry. Come support your LADY KNIGHTS!!!

The varsity swim team at Sherman Oaks CES is a proud team of confident individuals who are filled with the drive to make the year 2017 a successful season. With returning swimmers, as well as the new entering freshman, the team is excited to welcome their newest member of the SOCES swim family, Coach Demian Vinarsky. Despite the transitions from coach to coach, the boys swim team has held the title of league champions for the past four years, and are working towards their fifth. This year, both girls and boys are training to engage in fierce competition with other districts at CIF and are planning to leave victorious. Our swim team is looking forward to a prosperous year.
Coach Demian Vinarsky
The boys’ varsity tennis team at SOCES prides itself as one of the greatest teams. Under the leadership of Coach Suzy J Lim the team rose to CIF Division I last season and is a contender for a strong Division I playoff run this season. The team started its climb in 2015 when it advanced to the Division II playoff finals and finished as the Divisional Runner-Up. This earned Boys’ tennis a spot in Division I, where they once again made the 2016 playoffs. The boys have worked extremely hard to be where they are now. They are a threat to bigger schools and they are a force to be recognized.
This season, the team has many returning players, as well as many new faces, that will carry it through a strong regular season and hopefully as League Champions. The team is led by senior Co-Captains BrianSiegel and Ori Shine.
